Abstract: | Introduction: The clinical spectrum of COVID-19 ranges from asymptomatic infection to severe
pneumonia with acute respiratory distress syndrome and multiorgan dysfunction.
Aim: Evaluation of respiratory complications in children with SARS-CoV-2 infection
Material and methods: The study includes 64 hospitalized children admitted to the Department of
Infectious Diseases COVID-19 of the Institute of Mother and Child, divided into 5 age groups. The
children were analyzed according to clinical and paraclinical data.
Results: The study found a higher frequency of the disease in infants - 21 children (32.8%). Every
third child showed catarrhal respiratory signs (30%), cough and cyanosis in 66.1%.
Conclusions: Analyzing the age structure of hospitalized children with COVID-19 infection, a higher
frequency of the disease was found in infants. Respiratory catarrhal signs and fever were constant in
the clinical picture, and cough, dyspnea, cyanosis, remain the main manifestations of the COVID-19
infection in children. The disease mainly evolves in a moderate form in hospitalized children with
SARS-CoV-2 infection, although children are likely to develop respiratory complications, toxic infectious complications, as well as severe forms of COVID-19 infection in 2.9% of cases. |
