Background: Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are essential mediators of bone formation involved in the regulation of differentiation of osteoprogenitor cells into osteoblasts. By their osteoinductive capacities, BMPs have been considered as the most potent growth factors that can promote the bone regeneration and repair, representing an important alternative to bone autotransplant. Material and methods: Underlying work is accumulated material within the Department of General Oncology and Rehabilitation Oncology Institute of Moldova. There were supervised 572 patients with benign tumors in the period from 2005 to 2015. Results: Tests revealed that the most frequent benign tumors are cartilaginous ones: osteocondroms 39 to 2.0 %, condroms 14 to 1.5%, condroblastoms – 2 to 0.6%. After cartilaginous tumors, second place is occupied by osteoclastoma. Rarely, patients with bone cyst and osteodisplastic fibrous bone lipoma are uncounted. Other processes are rarely encountered. Benign tumors more often prevail at men (58 ± 2%). Conclusions: Experimental and clinical studies suggested a great potential of BMPs in bone formation, especially in critical size bone defects. We may expect that the transplant for bone defects recovery that would satisfy the requirements of oncology can be developed.en_US
