Congenital anomalies occur more commonly in infants of diabetic mothers (IDM), and cardiac defects predominate. Material and method: a retrospective study from January 2011 to December 2013. Results: The overall incidence of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy was 24.5%. The highest was in the group where mothers were on insulin at the time of conception. IDMs often develop respiratory problems which need to be differentiated from the cardiovascular problems they are prone to have (structural congenital heart defect and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) and from cardiovascular maladaptation to extra-uterine life which they may also suffer from. Conclusions: Pregnancies of both types I and II diabetes carry an increased risk for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy compared with those with gestational diabetes. We observed an increased risk for infants of type I diabetes versus the other groups.en_US
