In experimental liver cirrhosis (LC) induced by CCl4 administration, changes of different intensity of the thiol-disulfide metabolism indices was noted − accumulation of significant quantity of oxidized glutathione (GSSG), and decrease of the (GSH)/GSSG ratio, diminution of the glutaredoxin and increase of γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (γ-GTP) activities. Administration to intact animals of sulphatated polysaccharides from spirulina (SSP) resulted in the increase of GSSG amount, decrease of GSH/GSSG ratio and decrease of the functional level of thioredoxin reductase (TrsR) and glutaredoxin. Medications of experimental LC with SSP leads to normalization of the GSH/GSSG ratio compared with the group of untreated cirrhotic animals. SSP exerted a supressive action on TrsR and glutaredoxin in cirrhotic liver.
