Clinical, immunological, virological and epidemiological data were collected in 40 adult patients diagnosed with HIV/AIDS infection. Late diagnoses were defined as a CD4 count of < 350 cells/µl and/or an AIDS associated condition. More than half (70%) of the investigated patients had at the time of diagnosis severe immunosupression and/or clinical AIDS, a much higher proportion compared to that of approximately 15 – 38%, described in the Europe. The most frequent AIDS related conditions were tuberculosis, oropharyngeal candidiasis and wasting syndrome.
