The metabolic syndrome is known to consist of a cluster of heart disease risk factors, including obesity, insulin resistance, arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia, disturbances of glucidic metabolism and is a predictor of cardiovascular diseases. Several studies have confirmed that arterial hypertension is the most frequent compound of the metabolic syndrome both in women and in men. There are some features of metabolic syndrome in patients with arterial hypertension. We enrolled in our study 119 patients with arterial hypertension, divided in 2 groups: with metabolic syndrome and without it. This study has proved that the metabolic syndrome in patients with arterial hipertension is associated not only with more pronounced changes in glucidic and lipidic metabolism, but also with the increase of the ischaemic heart disease manifestations.
