Although significant progress has been made in the prevention and treatment of instent restenosis, it remains an unsolved clinical problem of interventional cardiology. The restenosis rate with bare metal coronary artery stents is about 15-20% and with drug eluting stents – 3-8%. Some studies revealed that instent restenosis may be an independent predictor factor of four-year mortality after stent implantation. The triggers and pathophysiological mechanisms of instent restenosis are not completely elucidated.
