Summary. Computed tomography (CT) is now widely available and represents an important and rapid method for the diagnostics of tumor disease of the liver, characterization of focal liver lesions, planning of interventional therapy measures and postintervention control. By the use of different contrast medium phases good characterization of space-occupying lesions can be achieved. For the diagnostics of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) a triphasic or quadriphasic examination protocol should always be implemented. The introduction of 64 slice CT increased the sensitivity of imaging of hypervascularized and hypovascularized liver lesions. It has become possible to avoid additional native imaging which reduces the x-ray exposition of patients. The study was simultaneously conducted in Private Medical Center “Excellence”. CT scanning of the liver was performed with Aquilion-64 slicer CT scanner (Toshiba) at 120 kvp and 250-300 mAs. All patients were given I/V nonionic contrast media(Omnipaque 350 mg l/ml) of 1.5-2 ml/Kg with overall dose ranging from 80-100 ml according to departmental protocol. Patient preparation also included administration of 500-1000 ml of water/oral contrast prior to the examination.en_US
