Introduction. In the modern world, there are high placebo response rates in various diseases, in particular in the field of psychiatry. Accordingly, there is an increasing demand from medical professionals for the development of new expert recommendations on the scientifically sound and ethical use of placebos in clinical practice. Aim of study. a comparative study of the placebo effect in the treatment of mental disorders. Methods and materials. Information was collected and analyzed in the electronic databases PubMed, Hinari, elsevier, e-library, cyberleninka. All sources over the past 10 years have been analyzed. Results. The magnitude of the placebo effect varies depending on the psychological susceptibility of the participant and the type of mental disorder. There have been studies that have caused considerable resonance in the field of science, since the placebo effect was so pronounced that it formed the opinion that it should be used independently in the treatment of depressed patients with mild to moderate depression. In some studies, the response rate to placebo was almost as high as to antidepressants administration. Conclusion. In a comparative analysis of the placebo effect in schizophrenia, BPD and BDR, we conclude that the use of the placebo effect is more appropriate for mood disorders than for schizophrenia. Despite the fact that the placebo effect remains an intriguing and widely studied topic, it requires more detailed consideration in the field of mental disorders in order to modernize treatment methods.en_US
