In a healthy adult liver, only ~1 hepatocyte in 20,000 (0.005%) is in the cell cycle. The rest are quiescent, in the G0 state. This article is focusing on the early events occurring in liver after partial damage (chemical or hepatectomy). Understanding of signaling pathways that allows hepotatocytes to maintain most of their homeostatic functions and important capacity to complete restitution of lost or damaged tissue will propose new strategies to treat liver disorders.
