dc.description.abstract MALONYL DIALDEHYDE IN ISOPROTERENOL-INDUCED ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION (Abstract): The aimof this study was todeterminethe correlation between serum and tissue levels of malonyl dialdehyde (MDA) in experimental myocardial infarction and the assessment of MDA potential in the disease early diagnosis. Material and methods: Forty rats were divided into five groups: intact (L1=11), 0.9% NaCl control (L2=11), with experimental acute myocardial infarction (L3=6, L4=6, L5=6) induced by subcutaneous in-jection of Isoproterenol hydrochloride solution 100 mg/kg and sacrificed at 6 hours, 24 hours and 7 days, respectively. Statistical analysis was performed using the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric test. The results were expressed as median and interquartile range and the Spear-man correlation coefficient was calculated (SPSS 23.0). Results:Serum MDA levels have shown a steady increase in the experimental groups compared to the intact and control ones. In homogenate, MDA presented a significant decrease in L4, with a return in L5 to in the in-tact and control groups’levels. Conclusions: Our study reveals a high level of reactive oxy-gen species, thus certifying their role in enhancing lipid peroxidation in ischemia, leading to the formation and accumulation of secondary compounds. The presence and expression of MDA is directly dependent on thedegree and extent of oxidative stress and reflects the severity of cardiomyocyte membrane lesions with the loss of heart structural integrity in the reported pathology en_US
