Abstract: Summary. Implementation in urological practice of mini invasive methods of treatment, such as percutaneous nephrolithotomy (NLP), extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) have changed tactics in surgical treatment of urolithiasis. This aspect has contributed to considerable reduction in frequency of open surgical techniques. Even under these conditions open surgery by nephrolithotomy remains very effective in the management of patients with staghorn lithiasis. Surgical techniques with minimal trauma and bleeding, but also radically effective for removing stones, are the basic direction of staghorn lithiasis treatment. Getting the indications and proper patient selection, nephrolithotomy cause results to be optimal for patients with severe forms of nephrolithiasis.
