Abstract: This article is dedicated to the particularities of etiology, pathogenesis and treatment of PCOS. The most recent knowledge indicates that abnormal insulin response to glucose stimulus is a key underlying factor in PCOS. Other etiological factors include dearangement of the sympathetic nervous control of the ovaries, estrogen dominance and elevated androgens. Some of the literature suggests a genetic susceptibility to insulin stimulation of androgen secretion, blocking follicular maturation.
