Abstract:
This study investigates the reasons for hospitalization
in patients with low-risk (CRB-65/CURB-65 score 0–1)
community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), with a view to
identifying the potential for improving outpatient management. 1052 patients had low-risk CAP and 726 of these
were admitted. Additional markers of severity justifying
admission were comorbidities in 45,4–59,6% cases, ranges
between 4,5–39,9% were patients with severe CAP (≥ 2
severity criteria), no data about social circumstances for
justifying admission. Pneumonia severity scores should be
used as an adjunct to clinical judgement, when deciding
on hospitalization.
