Abstract

Summary. Etiological and clinical aspects of community-acquired pneumonia in elderly patients The study included 150 patients hospitalized with community-acquired pneumonia, of which we retrospectively analysed 48 patients aged more than 65 years and 102 patients aged less than 65 years. We revealed that Streptococcus pneumoniae domains in the etiological structure of community-acquired pneumonia in elderly patients. The onset of pneumonia in the elderly is more often an insidious one and localized crackles are more frequently observed on auscultation. An evolutionary feature of community-acquired pneumonia in the elderly is the delayed resolution of infiltrate.
