dc.description.abstract Summary Researchers are combining efforts to better understand SARS- CoV-2, and recent findings point to the importance of cytokine storms. Elevated interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels can predict COVID-19 pulmonary complications. Dental professionals play a significant role because periodontitis can increase IL-6 levels locally and systemically. Periodontal treatment has positive effects in systemic inflammation, and the importance of oral hygiene and periodontal health for respiratory conditions and COVID-19 should not be underestimated. en_US
