Abstract

With the advances of modern combustiology, the survival rate of the patients, affected by thermal injury has considerably grown. This led to an increased number of patients with scars with different localization. Scarring located in the neck and head, besides physiological discomfort also leads to psychological trauma, affecting all facets of patient’s life. One method of solving the problem is tissue expansion. The article provides an overview of the literature on tissue expansion in the head and neck area with a detailed description of the surgical technique at all stages of the procedure.

Datorită succeselor combustiologiei moderne, rata de supravieţuire a pacienţilor afectați de leziuni termice, a crescut considerabil. Acest lucru a dus la creşterea numărului de pacienţi cu cicatrici cu diversă localizare. Cicatricele, localizate la nivelul capului şi gâtului, pe lângă discomfort fizic, duc la traume psihice, care afectează toate aspectele vieţii pacientului. O metodă de a rezolva această problemă este expandarea tisulară.
