Aplicaţiile terapiei fotodinamice în prevenirea cariei dentare la copiii cu dizabilităţi severe

Abstract

This paper aims to evaluate the effectiveness of applying photodynamic therapy (PDT) in preventing dental caries in children with severe disabilities. This study was conducted on a sample of 284 children with severe neuromotor disabilities, with severe and profound mental disabilities and related affections. The results of the study demonstrated the effect of applying PDT. It was observed a reduction in the number and the activity of cariogenic strains of oral 546 biofilm, which provides new opportunities to develop efficient methods for preventing dental caries.

Prezenta lucrare urmăreşte evaluarea eficienţei aplicării terapiei fotodinamice (Photodynamic therapy - PDT) în scopul prevenirii cariei dentare la copiii cu dizabilităţi severe. Acest studiu a fost efectuat pe un eşantion de 284 copii cu dizabilităţi neuro-motorii severe, retardare mentală severă şi profundă şi dizabilităţi asociate. În rezultatul studiului s-a demonstrat efectul aplicării PDT prin reducerea numărului şi activităţii tulpinilor bacteriene cariogene din biofilmul oral, fapt care oferă noi oportunităţi în elaborarea metodelor eficiciente de prevenire a cariei dentare.
