dc.description.abstract Background: More studies, including polycentric ones prove the fundamental and medical and scientific significance of the choledocalpancreaticoduodenal junction, as well as publications in the field are on the rise. The components of the hepatic-pacnreaticoduodenal region maintain the close relationship between them via a network of landmarks, which refer to the coherence between the structure and functions of these organs. In this context, the main landmark is represented by the choledocal-duodenal junction with its subcomponents and their individual variations starting from the hysto- and organogenesis of each individual apart. The choledocal-duodenal junction is an area that, at structural and functional levels, includes organs of the hepato-pancreaticoduodenal region, including the major duodenal papilla and terminal segments of the common bile duct and main pancreatic duct. At present, especially related to the wider implementation of endoscopic operations in the medical practice, surgeons and endoscopists are required to know as exactly as possible the morphological and functional and spatial relationships of the components of the biliary-pancreaticoduodenal complex, relationships which significantly vary from one person to another. Thus, in order to determine a correct diagnosis and prescribe an appropriate modern treatment, it is necessary to organize a qualitative training of staff who provides services to patients with affections of BPD region. Conclusions: The achievement of this goal has also at the basis the fundamental research of the morphological sub-layer which determines the solving of these issues. The literature referring to planned research includes very different data, including controversial hypotheses, even totally opposing opinions. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct studies that would get closer the interpretations of some peculiarities related to the biliary-pancreaticoduodenal complex in humans. en_US
