Abstract:
In Chisinau, in the period of transition to the market economy the unfavorable situation concerning the morbidity of tuberculosis has developed.
The morbidity and mortality rates have increased; there is a rejuvenation of tuberculosis. More than 60% of cases are presented by unemployed people
who have no means for existence. The number of women and children is increasing among the tuberculosis patients. Often men and the persons of
working age from 20 to 60 years old suffer from tuberculosis. The prevailing way of TB contracting is through communication (55%). Alarming is the
fact of growing forms of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) among newly reported cases in children and adults. The appearance of MDR-TB
cases is the cause of high level of TB morbidity, mortality and treatment failure. The data on the evolution of the incidence of tuberculosis in the city of
Chisinau have been collected for many years from statistical sources, including questionnaires with health reporting results, the epidemiological survey
of TB cases, observation of hospitalized patients and those treated in outpatient conditions. When processing these data the methods of retrospective
and current epidemiological analysis as well as statistical ones were used.
