dc.description.abstract Summary. Hepato-renal syndrome is caused by renal vasoconstriction and impaired glomerular perfusion, both of which may be mediated by increased formation of vasoactive mediators such as endotelin-1 and decreased plasma prostaglandin E-2 production. The plasma endothelin (ET) and PGE-2 levels were evaluated in 114 patients with hepatic cirrhosis, including 23 patients with hepato-renal syndrome. The determination of ET-1, PGE-2 and urinary enzymes can be included in the prognostic assessment of patient with decompensate cirrhosis and hepato-renal syndrome. en_US
