Primii pași de catalogare corporativă în cadrul Consorțiului bibliotecilor universitare din Moldova

Abstract

Collaboration is a necessity in the current library environment where time, money, and resources are limited and information is growing at an exponential rate. Th e TEMPUS project „Modern Information Services for Improvement Study Quality” (MISISQ) brought together seven university libraries from the Republic of Moldova, developing a successful partnership to create a comprehensive, authoritative union online catalogue and ultimately improve access to information resources for moldavian academic community. Th is article provides an overview of the current state of cataloging cooperation, reveals prospects for further cooperation, and highlights difficulties in cooperation. Th is paper also describes common accepted rules and standards, the procedures and practices adopted by the university libraries for the cooperative cataloging program. In the few months that libraries have been participating in a cooperative cataloguing program, they have found that the benefits derived have considerable off set the additional work required. Cooperative cataloging means: shared eff ort for the benefit of all.
