dc.description.abstract Introduction. Polytrauma in the context of the progressive industrialization of the world represent an important part of all the traumatic bodily injuries suffered by the population and despite the achievements in the field of medicine, remain a major cause of hospitalization, invalidation, mortality. Purpose. Evaluation of some medical and social aspects of polytrauma in different countries. Material and methods. Secondary study, narrative synthesis. Sources analysis: PubMed, Europe PMC, Med ONE, Injury - international journal of the care of the injured, scientific journals, textbooks; date of publication: 2014-2021; language: English, Romanian and Russian. Results. Following the analysis, we identified a number of social and medical issues that are associated with polytrauma. The incidence of polytrauma correlates with the age group, sex, environment (vehicle, height, working environment, usual conditions) in which the person is, the time (of the day, week, year) when the polytrauma occurs. In the studied sources we noticed a pattern as regards the damage of different parts and systems of the body in polytrauma. Complications, which can result in death, are another important medical factor described in the sources. Conclusions. The mentioned factors correlate with the incidence of polytrauma and the severity of the condition of polytrauma patients. Knowing the legalities of these factors will allow effective measures to be taken to prevent polytrauma and to resolve existing cases more successfully. en_US
