Abstract

In 2006, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted the relevant amendments to the Constitution for the abolition of the death penalty, which was an exceptional punishment. I was one of the first countries to have ratified the Additional Protocol to the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment since 1984, which entered into force on 26 June 1987, in accordance with the provisions of Article 27 (1) .... At the same time, the national mechanism for preventing torture was established by amending the law on the ombudsman.
