Abstract:
Cognitive impairment is a major problem in complex geriatric assessment. Based on the geriatric assessment of 100 elderly people from urban
and rural areas, aged between 65 and 95 years, from different localities in
the Republic of Moldova, most of them being patients from the Geriatrics
Department of the Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health. The patients
were evaluated according to the level of cognitive impairment. From the
general population, the female sex predominates, living in rural areas, over
75 years old, having an average level of education and working as workers.
In elderly patients, the presence of relatives suffering from nervous disorders
predominates, which denotes the hereditary etiology, and the risk factors: alcohol, nicotine, trauma, mental overwork. Alzeimer is often associated with
other pathologies, causing the syndrome of polypathologies. The progressive
loss of short-term memory was identified as an early symptom, as well as a
later symptom - the irreversible loss of long-term memory, with association
with other cognitive disorders (aphazo-apraxo-agnosic).
