Abstract:
Neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, frontotemporal
dementia, or multiple sclerosis, involve the progressive deterioration
of cognitive and motor functions, leading to a high degree of
dependency and vulnerability among patients. In this context, the risk of
abuse — including sexual abuse — increases significantly, particularly in
institutionalized settings or where supervision is inadequate. This study
aims to conduct a review of the specialized literature regarding the
correlation between neurodegenerative diseases and the risk of sexual
abuse, in relation to the patient’s vulnerability and the physician’s effectiveness
in identifying cases of sexual abuse and protecting the patient.
