Introducere. Investigatorul principal este o persoană cheie în realizarea corectă a studiilor clinice, iar coordonarea eficientă şi etică a cercetării presupune asumarea unor multiple responsabilităţi din partea aceştuia. Monitorizarea etică a respectării acestor responsabilităţi presupune cunoaşterea şi înţelegerea lor. Scop. Explorarea obligaţiilor investigatorilor principali în studiile clinice şi identificarea standardelor de expertiză etică a studiilor clinice cu referire la responsabilităţile investigatorilor. Material şi metode. Analiza narativă a obligaţiilor investigatorilor principali în studiile clinice, descrise în politici internaţionale relevante. Analiza standardelor de expertiză etică a studiilor clinice cu referire la responsabilităţile morale ale investigatorilor şi a provocărilor legate de evaluarea disponibilităţii resurselor de timp în cercetare în Moldova. Rezultate. Sintetizând prevederile Ghidurilor ICH-GCP, responsabilităţile investigatorului principal (IP) în studiile clinice au fost grupate în cinci categorii-cheie: respectarea protocolului, protejarea participanţilor, integritatea datelor, coordonarea echipei şi comunicarea cu părţile implicate. În Republica Moldova, evaluarea etică a acestor responsabilităţi este realizată de Comitetul Naţional de Expertiză Etică a Studiului Clinic (CNEESC), care se confruntă cu provocări legate de estimarea timpului real necesar pentru exercitarea funcţiei de IP. Prezumtiv, o implicare mai mare de 125-150 ore/lună poate afecta siguranţa şi calitatea studiului. Concluzii. Stabilirea unui număr optim de studii simultan coordonate de un IP şi dezvoltarea unor instrumente de monitorizare a încărcăturii de muncă pentru IP, reprezintă măsuri esenţiale pentru protejarea participanţilor, prevenirea suprasolicitării cercetătorilor şi asigurarea calităţii cercetării.
Introduction. The principal investigator is a key person in the proper conduct of clinical trials, and the efficient and ethical coordination of research involves assuming multiple responsibilities on his or her part. Ethical monitoring of compliance with these responsibilities requires knowledge and understanding of them. Objective. Exploring the obligations of principal investigators in clinical trials and identifying standards of clinical trial ethical expertise concerning investigator responsibilities. Material and methods. Narrative analysis of the obligations of principal investigators in clinical trials, as described in relevant international policies. Analysis of the standards of ethical expertise of clinical trials concerning the moral responsibilities of investigators and the challenges related to assessing the availability of research time resources in Moldova. Results. Summarizing the provisions of the ICH-GCP Guidelines, the responsibilities of the principal investigator (PI) in clinical trials have been grouped into five key categories: protocol compliance, participant protection, data integrity, team coordination, and communication with stakeholders. In the Republic of Moldova, the ethical assessment of these responsibilities is carried out by the National Committee for Clinical Trial Ethics (CNEESC), which faces challenges in estimating the actual time required to perform the PI function. Presumably, an involvement greater than 125-150 hours/month may affect the safety and quality of the study. Conclusion. Establishing an optimal number of clinical trials coordinated simultaneously by a principal investigator (PI) and developing workload monitoring tools for principal investigators are essential measures to protect participants, prevent researcher overload, and ensure research quality.
