dc.description.abstract Pregnancy loss, whether natural or induced, is associated with an increased risk of mental health problems. Clinical evidence and existing research suggest that women who have experienced such losses may experience intense emotional reactions during a subsequent pregnancy, such as joy mixed with grief, guilt, or fear. Some of these women may experience heightened anxiety, fears of another loss, or beliefs that they are unworthy of becoming mothers, which can affect the creation of emotional bonds with their fetus. Empirical studies, although limited in size and often without rigorous control for prior mental health, confirm these observations, indicating a higher incidence of treatment for mental disorders among women with a history of pregnancy loss. Fear of childbirth has also been identified as a significant risk factor for postpartum depression, especially in women with previous induced abortions. Early intervention may improve symptoms, and assessing a history of pregnancy losses may facilitate earlier referral to specialized services to reduce mental health problems. en_US
