Introduction. Ajuga sp. is a genus of herbaceous plants belonging to the Lamiaceae family.
The species are widely distributed across Europe, Asia, and North Africa and have been
traditionally used in folk medicine for its sedative properties, antihemorrhagic benefits,
anti-inflammatory effects, and because it promotes wound healing. The aerial parts of
Ajuga plants are rich in bioactive compounds such as phenolic acids, flavonoids, iridoids,
diterpenes, triterpenes [1]. Previous in vitro and in vivo research has demonstrated the
following actions: anti-malarial, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory,
antipyretic, and antiproliferative [2]. Recent research has aimed at isolating and
identifying specific compounds from Ajuga sp. to further understand their mechanisms of
action and explore their potential therapeutic applications.
Aim of the study. Evaluation the phytotoxicity of Ajuga genevensis extract using Lemna
minor (Araceae) and Riccia fluitans (Ricciaceae) as biological material.
Material and methods. The aqueous extract was obtained by refluxing the aerial parts
with water, followed by concentration using a rotary evaporator and lyophilization. The
tested concentrations were as follows: 1000 µg/mL, 750 µg/mL, 500 µg/mL, 250 µg/mL,
100 µg/mL, and 50 µg/mL. The investigation focused on the toxicity of the extract over a
period of 16 days, with observations recorded on days 0, 1, 5, 6, 8, and 16. Each test was
conducted in duplicate to ensure reliability of the results. Water served as the control in
this experiment. The following parameters were evaluated: biomass over 16 days,
measured using an analytical balance: leaf area of Lemna minor at intervals of 0, 1, 5, 6, 8,
and 16 days, analyzed with the ImageJ software: segment length of Riccia fluitans at the
same intervals (0, 1, 5, 6, 8, and 16 days), also assessed using ImageJ; color intensity,
indicated by chlorophyll content, for both Lemna minor and Riccia fluitans at days 0 and
16, measured with ImageJ[3].
Results.
1. The effect of the extract on the surface of L. minor leaves: at the concentrations of 50,
100 and 1000 µg/mL (74.19; 75.64; and 86.57), an inhibitory effect was found compared
to the control (114.09). At concentrations between 250 and 750 µg/mL, the effect was
similar to that observed in the control.
2. The effect of the extract on the mass of L. minor plants: the tested extract visibly
influences L. minor biomass in a stimulatory manner.
3. The effect of the extract on the length of segments of R. fluitans: at concentrations 750
and 1000 µg/mL (32.07 and 46.49), a strong inhibitory effect was found compared to the
control; at concentrations of 250 and 500 µg/mL (61.32 and 55.36) an inhibitory effect
was found compared to the control (72.07); at the concentration of 50 µg/mL (75.74), the
effect was similar to that observed in the control; at the concentration of 100 µg/mL
(80.73) the effect was slightly stimulatory.4. The effect ofthe extract on the mass ofR. fluitans plants:The extractinfluenced the biomass
in very small limits, no correlation between the concentration and it being evident.
Conclusion. Ajuga extract has a different impact on the two aquatic plant species. In
Lemna minor, medium concentrations stimulate growth compared to the control, while
extremes are inhibitory. In contrast, on Riccia fluitans, the extract had an inhibitory effect
at higher concentrations and a slight stimulation only at 100 µg/mL, indicating a varied
sensitivity.

cicatrizante. Părțile aeriene ale plantelorAjuga sunt bogate în compuși bioactivi precumacizii
fenolici, flavonoidele, iridoidele, diterpenele șitriterpenele [1]. Cercetările anterioare, in vitro
și in vivo, au demonstrat următoarele acțiuni: antimalarică, antimicrobiană, antioxidantă,
antiinflamatoare, antipiretică și antiproliferativă [2]. Cercetările recente au vizat izolarea și
identificarea compușilor specifici din Ajuga sp. pentru a înțelege mai bine mecanismele lor de
acțiune și a explora potențialele lor aplicații terapeutice.
Obiectiv: Evaluarea fitotoxicității extractului de Ajuga genevensis utilizând Lemna minor
(Araceae) și Riccia fluitans (Ricciaceae) ca material biologic.
Material și metode. Extractul apos a fost obținut prin refluxarea părților aeriene cu apă,
urmată de concentrarea prin rotaevaporare și liofilizare. Concentrațiile testate au fost
următoarele: 1000 µg/mL, 750 µg/mL, 500 µg/mL, 250 µg/mL, 100 µg/mL, respectiv 50
µg/mL. Investigația a evaluat toxicitatea extractului pe o perioadă de 16 zile, cu înregistrarea observațiiloe în zilele 0, 1, 5, 6, 8 și 16. Fiecare test a fost efectuat în duplicat
pentru a asigura fiabilitatea rezultatelor. Apa a fost folosită ca martor în acest experiment.
Au fost evaluați următorii parametri: biomasa pe parcursul a 16 zile, măsurată cu ajutorul
unei balanțe analitice; aria frunzelor de Lemna minor la intervalele de 0, 1, 5, 6, 8 și 16 zile,
analizată cu software-ul ImageJ; lungimea segmentelor de Riccia fluitans la aceleași
intervale (0, 1, 5, 6, 8 și 16 zile), evaluată tot cu ImageJ; intensitatea culorii, indicată de
conținutul de clorofilă, pentru ambele specii în zilele 0 și 16, măsurată cu ImageJ [3].
Rezultate.
1. Efectul extractului asupra suprafeței frunzelor de L. minor: la concentrațiile de 50, 100
și 1000 µg/mL (74.19; 75.64; și 86.57), s-a constatat un efect inhibitor comparativ cu
martorul (114.09). La concentrații între 250 și 750 µg/mL, efectul a fost similar cu cel
observat la martor.
2. Efectul extractului asupra masei plantelor L. minor: extractul testat influențează vizibil
biomasa L. minor într-un mod stimulator.
3. Efectul extractului asupra lungimii segmentelor de R. fluitans: la concentrațiile de 750
și 1000 µg/mL (32.07 și 46.49), s-a constatat un efect inhibitor puternic comparativ cu
martorul; la concentrațiile de 250 și 500 µg/mL (61.32 și 55.36), s-a constatat un efect

Concluzie: Extractul de Ajuga are un impact diferit asupra celor două specii de plante
acvatice. La Lemna minor, concentrațiile medii stimulează creșterea în comparație cu
martorul, în timp ce concentrațiile extreme sunt inhibitoare. În contrast, la Riccia fluitans,
extractul a avut un efect inhibitor la concentrații mai mari și o ușoară stimulare doar la
100 µg/mL, indicând o sensibilitate variată.
